“Anatomy Challenge Hunt” tm.
What to include in your video:
#1 Background Information of the hunter, animal, and location of the hunt.
#2 Photo / video gallery biography of the hunter.
#3 Hunt / kill shot / documentation video
#4 “Monday Morning Quarterback”
#5 Details of the hunt
See detailed Instructions below on how to create videos for submission to the “Perfect
Kill Shot Documentation Project”.
Here's an example of what to include in the video:
Species: Black Bear
Hunt location: Adikokan, Ontario
Hunter’s name: Jason Johnson
(1 to 2 sentences describing the content of the video.)
Description Of hunt video: Jason takes his 1st. black bear with a “Gearhead" crossbow that weighed 240# with his dad in the stand with him. Very intense exciting experience because the bear was constantly watching them! note: Heavy breathing and shaking.
Note: The purpose of this part is to inform the viewer of the content of this hunt, so they will have a big picture idea of what this particular hunt is about and whether or not they would want to watch it.
Example: Since it’s a bear hunt many deer, hunters would not be interested, on the other hand bear hunters would. Maybe some people would not be interested, since it’s shot with a crossbow and is a smaller bear from Ontario compared to Alberta’s larger bears. On the other hand, the fact that it’s a father son first bear with the excitement of the bear watching them constantly and hearing Jason’s heavy breathing and his dad shaking after the shot might actually draw people in to watch? I do not want people to be bored by forcing them to watch videos they wish they wouldn’t have. When they leave our channel, I want them to be excited by what they just watched and want to come back for more.
When I personally watch hunting shows I’m constantly trying to find out about the host of the show. Are they a true-blue hunter? Are they ego driven? Why did they start a TV show? What is their life like off camera in a non-hunting situation? Are they a person of character and integrity that care about animals and the future of hunting or is it just about getting the kill shot at all compromise costs?
By giving each hunter thirty seconds to two minutes to introduce themselves to the viewer it accomplishes 2 things: #1 The viewer after watching their biography can gain more insight when watching the actual hunt video. By watching Jason’s personal biography I believe the viewers experience will be much more “personal “ by getting to know him and appreciate that this will probably be his only bear hunt of his life which adds such importance to this hunt. #2 This segment is designed to promote hunting to fight against young people being addicted to social media screens? Simply by showcasing all the great experiences we have and share with others through hunting that we can’t get any other way can motivate young people to want to experience the same thrill that we do. Most of my greatest memories of my father and I were centered around hunting and fishing and even when things didn’t go right like the time I had the biggest northern of my life up to the boat and my dad netted the hook and not the fish as it swam away and my heart sunk as he said “get back to fishing “ knowing immediately what he did and how I felt. Jason and I will share forever the intensity of that bear constantly watching us and taking 20 to 30 minutes to actually come in close to the bait as he turned to leave and I said “shoot now “, he did and now he has a memory with his father that if my father was alive would have relished.
I need to set up a list of questions so that the hunter can answer them to do a simple voice over the photos and videos they choose to showcase their life.
One basic way to go about this segment is to have the hunter pick out 10 to 30 photos of him hunting, fishing, and also about his personal life like his family, his work , interests ect…
Each photo would be shown for 2 seconds with a voice over by the hunter making the whole video only one minute yet quickly showcasing the person behind the hunter
Consider answering some of these questions when making your voiceover. Note: One of my purposes is to “inspire” young people!
#1 How old were you when you hunted or fished for the first time?
#2 What was your first fish and what was the first animal you killed?
#3 What all do you fish and hunt for now?
#4 What is your favorite animal to hunt and why?
#5 What motivates you to hunt?
#6 How big apart of your life is hunting and fishing?
#7 What is your most memorable hunt?
Think of this as a regular hunting show up to the kill shot. Planning the hunt driving to destination, climbing tree etc. like the best hunting shows you like no difference. Immediately after the kill shot, we will “Pause The hunt” and ask the viewers 2 questions on a black screen: #1 Will this animal live or die? #2 What organs were hit by the broadhead? Heart, lung, liver, diaphragm, guts, spleen. showing on the left side of a split screen exactly where the lighted nock entered the animal. On the right split screen 3 questions appear. #1 Is this a kill shot? #2 How far will the animal travel before it expires? What organs were hit by the broadhead? Note: lighted nock would be beneficial.
Each correct answer receives 20 points and each incorrect answer is deducted 20 points
Question #3 for each correct organ hit you get 10 points and minus 10 points for each incorrect organ hit or not hit. This is a basic template, but since each hunt is unique it is possible to add other questions if they add to the challenge and mystery of the shot. For example, in Jason’s bear hunt, since he hit high, I can create challenging interest with these 3 additional questions. #4 Did Jason’s arrow enter the bear above the backbone? #5 Did it hit the backbone? #6 Did his arrow pass under the backbone?
The Uniqueness of these questions is in the answers:
He hit above (#4) the backbone on the entrance,
Hit the backbone (#5) as the arrow descended on its trajectory and then went under (#6) the backbone severing the aorta completely and then hitting the left lung from the top to the middle of the lung vertically. These additional questions with the anatomical documentation on video reassembling the actual backbone and ribs is a perfect example of what the goal of “The Anatomy Hunter's is all about. Men love to be challenged and compete with other men and the questions make watching the anatomy hunts uniquely interactive and interesting.
Next after the hunt has been paused and the viewers have answered their questions, we hit play and give more evidence to the viewer such as the animal walking or running away, the blood trail, the blood or lack of on the arrow etc. Like a murder mystery crime scene, we slowly try to build “the case” for the viewer. These 4 words describe what my vision is and what these “anatomy hunts” tm will be: #1 fast, # 2 Interactive #3 Exciting #4 Informative.
After all the “evidence “has been given to the viewer they can change their answers, but they only get half the original points. (10 points instead of 20)
Lastly the documentation part:
This part is the meat and potatoes of what this is all about. It is very important that this part is clearly understood. The danger is that when people see what all I do to examine an animal they assume I want them to do the same. NO!!
The goal is to make it very fast and simple for the hunter, a minimum of just 15 photos would work. After having found the animal: photo #1 would be a 90-degree overhead photo or video showing exactly where the arrow entered the animal. photo #2 shows exactly where the arrow exited the animal. Then after skinning showing the entrance and exit holes on the carcass. Then after gutting, showing exactly what organs were hit “documenting” evidence of what was the cause of death.
Note: It is very common when viewing the video footage that where the arrow hole appeared to impact the animal doesn’t seem to line up with the holes on the unskinned animal. Likewise, after the hide is taken off the holes don’t seem to line up on the unskinned animal. Note: By “Documenting” all this evidence we can put the pieces of the puzzle together to create a complete picture of the kill shot.
Another way of explaining this video interview is: “ If I could do it over again I would change this or that”.
Examples: Jason was wondering why he hit high on his Ontario bear. First thought was, he flinched. By watching the video it showed he didn’t. As he thought about it and watched the video he realized he hit just about where he aimed. In the heat of the moment when the bear instead of coming into the bait , the bear turned to walk away and Jason’s father saw the bear turn broadside said rather loudly “ shoot now” and Jason did. Think about the situation, you’ve been tense for 10 to 30 minutes with the bear watching you, circling and then your father not calmly yells out softly “shoot now” as the bear is turning to leave, Jason saw what he thought was the spot to aim on the bear and he hit his target spot that he aimed at. When he does his own voice over showing the bear on camera, he will tell you “ If I could do it over again, I would have aimed at a different spot”
This segment for especially new hunters will be very informative because each anatomy hunter will be a teacher! Actually by examining himself the hunting public will learn while being entertained.
The details of the hunt are for the viewer who wants to know more in-depth facts of the hunt they just viewed that might be too much information and possibly too boring to add to the fast-paced hunt video This way if they do want more about the hunt, they can get that extra information by clicking here. Examples: Description of the blood trail:
#1 Bled out both sides? Yes__ no___
#2 How wide did blood spray out entrance _____? Exit_____? Side.
#3 Heavy blood, light amount of blood, constant blood , blood drops every 1-5-10-20-50-100 YDS.?
Did the animal drop when you shot? Yes___ No___
What was the horizontal and vertical angle of your shot – Jason’s 26 degree vertical and 45 degrees forward facing according to arrow trajectory but the bear on video looked perfectly broadside or slightly quartering towards.
