Brian graduated from Janesville Parker High School in 1974. He then completed a taxidermy apprenticeship with Dick Barr Taxidermy in Savage, MN in 1975. He then successfully completed an additional taxidermy training at the American Institute of Taxidermy in Janesville, WI. He and his wife Doris made their living in the taxidermy trade in Madison, WI from 1976 until 1986. During that time, the Johnsons opened an additional taxidermy business in Spring Green, WI, making them the owners of one of Wisconsin's largest
taxidermy businesses. During this time, Mr. Johnson learned to sculpture animals out of clay. He then sold his taxidermy business and entered into a contract sculpturing animals out of clay for a private company. During that period of time Mr. Johnson began to sculpture animals out of wood using a chainsaw.
He and his wife then opened a business in Hayward, WI, he also owns the "Wisconsin School chainsaw carving" which was the First state-licensed chainsaw carving school in the US.At The Anatomy Hunter, we
believe that every student has the potential to succeed. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential and achieve their goals.
While Brian was sculpturing his line of final generation manikins
for Rinehart Taxidermy Supply, he had an idea to sculpture
archery targets. John Rinehart agreed and that was the start of
Rinehart Archery Targets which today is the largest high end
archery target company in the US. Along the way Brian
invented and had patented a shooting system that shows
hunters exactly what the perfect shot is to shoot a deer no
matter what position the deer is angled or what position the
hunter is angled. During this time Brian also created his own
line of Masterpiece Archery Targets (including a very unique 7
1/2 foot Sasquash) He then sold both his Masterpiece Archery
Targets and his patent to Rinehart Archery Targets which was
under new ownership. Brian then started his own taxidermy
supply business called Revolution Taxidermy Supply, which
specialized in "creativity that ignites excitement" in his deer
and bear unique positioned sculptures. The Deer we raised
helped in our study of deer, using them for referencing, and our
kids loved having them in our living room as we raised them
from fawns.
"Revolution Innovations", In their Spare time the Johnsons
both Brian and Doris sculpted many different flexible foam
products such as: Booner Decoy hunting hats, Trophy hats for
the football world, artificial deer mounts called Mancave
Bucks, 3-D Dart Targets, and numerous other sport and hunting
related products.
We sold Revolution Taxidermy Supply to Mckenzie in 2022
which continues to manufacture and sell Brian's line of deer
and bear sculptures. Brian continues to manufacture a line of
birch frames for McKenzie, which are uniquely created as
accents for antlers and pack frame mounts. Presently the
Johnson's latest endeavor is "The Anatomy Hunter". The goal is
to teach hunters through demonstration taxidermy models and
videos of live hunts, to make perfect kill shots that will quickly
and humanely kill animals to put venison in family freezers and
not to make bad shots that would end up feeding families of
coyotes.
